If your 2001 Ram has a brake controller connection port under the dash then it should also have wiring to the rear of the truck. This can often be tucked up above the spare tire. The wires may be blunt cut or there could be a connector with a cap but they should be tucked up above the spare. They may be zip-tied to other components to keep them safe.
If there is indeed no wiring to rear of the truck then you can still install a trailer brake controller such as the Prodigy P2 # 90885 by using our install kit # ETBC7. This requires that the truck have a 4-pole harness like # 118329. The install kit includes all of the parts needed to hard-wire the brake controller, including the 7-way socket.
The linked article and video (which shows a 2001 Ram) illustrate the installation process for the # ETBC7 kit.
