Does Foam Pad of 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon Need to Remove to Install EcoHitch
Question:
After watching the install video and reading the QandA, Im still not clear on the technical reason why the original foam padding beneath the bumper can not be re-installed. Doesnt the foam provide some resilience against the fascia cracking in event of minor pressure against e.g. parallel parking bumps and taps?

Expert Reply:
The foam padding on your vehicle's bumper will need to be removed to properly install the Ecohitch # 306-X601. Installing the trailer hitch with the bumper is going to bring the bumper out a little closer to the fascia. Leaving the foam padding on will not allow the fascia to be reinstalled.
Ecohitch has tested and determined that there wasn't any adverse consequences to removing the padding so you would not have any issues.
