Recommendation for a Bike Rack and Hitch for a 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan
Question:
Hi, I have a 2017 VW Tiguan sport, looking for a bike rack for the back. Wondering if I would need to purchase a hitch separately and any other attachments I may need. Also I am a single female wondering about installation. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. I live in the Los Angeles area, if you can recommend somewhere to have it installed. As well I will need it delivered and installed by August 14th, heading to Oregon for the eclipse. Thank you for your time,

If you need a hitch for your 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan, then I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2 Inch, # e98906. This hitch will allow you to mount a bike rack and if you wish other hitch accessories like a cargo carrier.
The etrailer hitch was designed to custom fit your Tiguan. The hitch has a fully welded steel construction that will ensure strength and durability.
The etrailer hitch will work great with the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack, # TH9058. This rack can carry two bikes with a total weight capacity of 75 lbs. The rack can be fitted to both 1-1/4 and 2 inch hitches allowing you the versatility of using the rack on different vehicles.
If you plan on carrying any women's or alternative framed bikes without horizontal top tubes you may also be interested in purchasing a Kuat Bike Frame Adapter Bar # UB01 to provide a horizontal top tube on your bikes to provide an attachment point. I attached a review video for this product also. This will allow the bikes to be carried more level and will provide more ground clearance.
As for installing the hitch, I recommend contacting several local shops for price quotes on installing this hitch. Once you have a few, I would check with the BBB for any negative ratings on that business before you decide on which shop to use. Installation of this hitch is not too labor intensive, so cost should not be too high.
