How to Connect 6-Way Flat on Trailer with 4-Way Flat on 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Question:

Both connectors from trailer and Miata are flat pin connectors. How would I modify the 4 pin connector #C56300 to accept the 6 pin flat connector from trailer? Again, both connector ends are flat male/female.

I do have a solution for you, however there is not currently an adapter available that will allow the 4-way on your 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata to connect with the Bushtec 6-Way flat on your trailer.

What I recommend doing is simply cutting off the trailer 6-Way and installing a 4-Way like the Hopkins # HM48110 that will be compatible with your tow vehicle. You can use a 12 volt battery to test each pin on the existing 6-way to determine their function, then simply connect the appropriate wires into the new 4-Way.

Coming from the 4-way connector, the yellow wire will go to left turn and brake. The Green wire will go to the right turn and brake. The brown wire will go to the taillight circuit and the white wire is for ground.
