What Wiring Harness do I Need for My 2017 Toyota Tacoma Without the Factory Tow Package?

Question:

Need to know about a trailer connection for as Toyota Tacoma 2017? I found this one Item # HM40975-11998 and it said Not Confirmed to Fit. This truck does not have the towing package but we need this towing package and wanted to know if this would work. The trailer connector is what fits in the bumper does look correct but what about the wiring. Thank You

The wiring harness you mentioned, part # HM40975-11998, is only designed to fit the 2015-2017 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado.

To tow with your 2017 Toyota Tacoma, you will need the Tekonsha OEM Replacement Vehicle Wiring Harness with Brake Controller Adapter, part # 22117, which is a custom fit for your vehicle.

Once your installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. Mounting brackets, # 18140 and # PK12711U are sold separately and are recommended to keep the connector secure. It is also recommended that you use a small amount of dielectric grease, # 11755, on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself- to prevent corrosion.

I've provided a link to a video with more details about the wiring harness and to another answer regarding the parts needed for adding a brake controller to your 2017 Toyota Tacoma.
