Recommendation to Connect 4-Way on Trailer to 7-Way on 1996 Ford F-250

Question:

Hello. I was just reading someone elses question and an etrailer response. My question is close, but a little different. I have a 1996 F250 extended-cab, 7.3 diesel. It already has a 7-way connection at the rear for a trailer/Rv. I recently purchased a utility trailer with a 4-way connector. I want to convert it to a 7-way. I had bought a Curt 7-way replacement, now Im told that its not compatible wasnt informed of a fitment issue when purchased. The guys question that I read, the representative from Etrailer said that you didnt have a direct fit. In his situation, his truck didnt have a 7-way connector hooked up, like mine does. Do you have a 7-way harness that I can hook up to a 7-way junction box that will plug into my truck? Thanks

The easiest way to tow your utility trailer with your 1996 Ford F-250 is with an adapter like the Pollak # PK12716. This will simply plug into the 7-way on your truck to provide a 4-way connector to hook up with your trailer in order to power its signal lights.

If you instead want to permanently install a 7-way on your trailer to match up with the 7-way on your vehicle, you will just need to add a connector like the Pollak # PK12706. If your trailer does not have any electric brakes, then you will simply need to cut off the existing 4-way connector and attach the wires according to the diagram I have included.

Please keep in mind that it is always best to attach the wires based on function and not by color alone, as wire colors can vary from trailer to trailer.
