Recommended Wiring For Brake Controller On Truck With Bad Totally Integrated Power Module

Question:

Hi, I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie 4x4 5.9L Diesel. I have a brake controller already installed in my truck. I bought it when I bought my 5th wheel. It seems that my TIPM is bad and I have no lights or brakes when hooked up to my trailers. Truck works fine light wise. I read that you recomment part numbers # ETBC7, # 118381 and the extra wire length. It is a long box quad cab. Now being that I have a brake controller already do I need that First number or do I just need the 4 way to 7 way adapter? Thanks for the help.

For your 2006 Ram 2500, since your Totally Integrated Power Module appears to be bad, I recommend using the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit with 4-Pole Connector (Includes Tester) # 119178KIT to get 4-way trailer functions and then use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7 to get your other functions while still avoiding the TIPM. This kit will allow you to use the external circuit breakers to protect your truck, brake controller, and trailer. Due to the size of your vehicle, I do recommend you use the extra wire length # 10-2-1. This will give you the ability to use your brake controller and have all your trailer functions without causing any lighting or braking issues with your truck.
