Troubleshooting Right Trailer Light Not Functioning On 2010 Nissan Xterra

Question:

Hello, I purchased your E-Trailer T-Connector 4 pole harness no. C56225 for a 2010 nissan xterra. I had not installed until recently due to personal reasons. All items were great except I am unable to get the right trailer turn signal to work. Do you have any troubleshooting recommendations for this product? Am I missing something simple? Would greatly appreciate a response back. Many thanks

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56225 is a confirmed fit for 2005 to 2015 Nissan Xterra models without factory trailer connectors. Since you are having some issues with your trailer right turn signal, I recommend starting with your trailer ground. If the ground is corroded or rusted it often will cause one function to not work on a trailer when the other functions work. Make sure you have a solid metal to metal contact for that ground. Then use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to check your functions at the vehicle side to make sure that 4-way is working properly when the trailer is not connected. If it is, trace the wire on the right brake signal back all the way to the trailer connection checking for shorts along that wire and replace as needed.

If your vehicle side connection is where the issue is, sometimes a small bend in a pin will cause a connection to not work properly. Next I'd check fuses and relays for any issues using your owners manual to help you with locations.

A little dielectric grease # 11755 can help with connections by keeping the electrical flow while keeping moisture and debris out.
