Fixed and Adjustable Roof Racks and Kayak Carrier for 2015 Ram 2500 Crew Cab

Question:

Im looking for a roof rack for my 2015 Ram 2500 Crew Cab to support my 15ft kayak. Id like something that has a track system mounted to the roof for easy adjustment forward and back as needed depending on whether Im carrying my kayak or a storage bin. Im also looking for a system that allows the bases to stay in place but the actual supports and cross bars can be removed. Please let me know if there if etrailer offers any options that would fit these needs. Thank you for your help!

Most aftermarket roof racks are meant to remain in place once installed. There are track-based rack systems that do allow for flexible placement of the rack's foot assemblies but these tracks require you to drill into your roof to install them permanently. The feet and crossbars can be removed once installed but not the tracks.

On the linked page you can see all standard aftermarket roof racks (that do not require drilling) that will fit your 2015 Ram 2500 crew cab. These include racks with virtually every type of bar style, which vary in price and in the amount of noise they tend to generate at highway speeds. The quietest bars are the elliptical or aerodynamic type, such as the Thule AeroBlade and Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero racks. For value and performance, I really like the Rhino-Rack system with black Vortex Aero bars; this rack is made of parts # RRVA150B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK043.

For a similar permanent-install track-based rack system you might consider Rhino-Rack # Y02-500B. Drilling is required.

Both of these rack use the Vortex bars that have a C-channel in the top that allows installation of accessory items like kayak carriers. These are under the rubber strips. On such bars you can use a carrier like Inno's Locker Watersport Carrier # INXA445.

The two linked articles on roof racks and watersport carriers may be of interest to you.
