Recommending a Weight Distribution System for a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer

Question:

I am trying to figure out what kind of sway bar we need for towing our 2007 stampede travel trailer tongue weight is about 2150 lbs with no water in it with water close to 5000 lbs tongue weight and the vehicle is a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer that can tow up to 5000 pounds tongue weight. What do you suggest?

By tongue weight, I assume you mean gross trailer weight (GTW), which is the weight of your 2007 Stampede when it is fully loaded. Trailer tongue weight is a different measurement, and usually between 10 and 15 percent of your GTW.

Total tongue weight is the most important measurement to have when it comes to choosing the correct weight distribution system, and will be the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow Stampede plus the weight of any cargo you have behind the rear axle of your 2007 Chevy Trailblazer. For example, if your Stampede's tongue weight is 600 lbs and you have 75 lbs of cargo behind the rear axle of your Trailblazer, your total tongue weight would be 675 lbs. You can determine this by using scale # e99044 or one of the methods outlined in the article on determining tongue weight which I've linked for you.

If your total tongue weight is between 400 lbs and 800 lbs, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line # RP66083. This is a system designed to prevent sway, uses serrated washers to make adjusting the tilt of the head easier, and allows you to back up while the system is on. Should your tongue weight be closer to 800 lbs, then you would want a system with a higher tongue weight capacity, which would be the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084, which is for tongue weights between 600 lbs and 1,200 lbs.

This system does not come with a hitch ball, so for a 2" ball you would want # A-90 and for a 2-5/16" ball you would want # 19286.

I have added a link to a video review of this system, as well as a help article on weight distribution for you to take a look at.
