What is Needed to Install Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 on a 2005 Toyota Tundra

Question:

My 2005 Tundra has a factory wiring harness but a 4 pin flat connector factory installed. My new trailer needs a brake controller and has a 7 pin connector. Is there a factory harness adapter to connect the P2 directly to the Tundra harness in the cab? Do I need to run any additional wiring between the connector on the bumper and the battery?

To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, on your 2005 Toyota Tundra you will need to have a 7-Way connector on the rear of your vehicle. The 2005 Toyota Tundra that would have a factory brake controller port under the dash for the brake controller to plug into would have a factory installed 7-Way at the rear. Since you have only a 4-Way connector on the rear of your vehicle, there is usually no brake controller port available for the brake controller to plug into. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Prodigy P2 brake controller.

To get a 7-Way connector at the rear of your vehicle you will need to use the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. This kit provides a 7-Way and 4-Way at the rear of the vehicle along with the wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller. I have included links to two FAQ articles on installing a brake controller from scratch, along with a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.
