Electric Brakes on RV Lock Up When Brake Pedal in Tow Vehicle is Pressed
Question:
While driving and coming to a stop or braking to slow, the trailer brakes lock up or hit really hard then immediately release, it will do this several times while towing but not every time. Thoughts on being a wiring problem or issues with the brakes? Any thoughts/help would be appreciated. Thank you.

This sounds like a wiring problem to me. I would start by checking the connector on both your trailer and your tow vehicle. Look for any corrosion or debris and clean it out.
If all of that looks good then I recommend testing your connectors next to make sure that you know which end of your towing setup the problem is occurring on. To test the connector on your tow vehicle simply requires the use of a Circuit Tester # PTW2992 to test the pins on your tow vehicle while the various functions are being activated from inside the cab.
For your trailer you will want to use an alternate power source like another tow vehicle or a 12V battery to activate the individual functions on your trailer. If you notice that the brakes lock up when testing other functions then you will want to test your brakes. I have attached a helpful article on how to do this.
If you do this testing and you still come up with problems then let me know and I will help you to troubleshoot further.
