Best Hitch Mounted Bike Rack to Carry a Womens Electra Beach Cruiser with Fenders
Question:
Best bike rack for an Electra beach cruiser? Just bought an Electra womens beach cruiser with 26 inch wheels. Bike weighs about 40 pounds. I drive a 2016 Ford Escape Titanium model. Just purchased the draw tight trailer 75782. I want a bike rack that will tilt away so that I can open my hatch. One person I talk to you in a trailer customer service recommended a platform rock while another recommended against a platform rock and said I should get a hanging rack instead? Now Im super confused and have no idea which bike rack to purchase.

If I had to guess I'd say the person who told you not to get a hanging rack said so because you have a women's bike that doesn't have the straight cross tube to hang the bike from. And they'd be right to say so. On the other hand, the person who told you not to get a platform rack probably sees your bike has fenders, which will conflict with a lot of them. And they'd also be right. So there's good reason to be confused.
I recommend a platform rack. More specifically, one that holds the bike by the frame in multiple places so it'll work with your women's bike. The Saris Freedom, part # SA4412B, is a great example. This is also an extremely light platform rack weighing only 22-1/2 pounds. The catch is it isn't a tilting rack but the center mast does fold down so you can likely access your Esacpe's hatch with the bike unloaded.
