Hopkins 4- and 7-Way Trailer Connector Not Working on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
My jeep has a factory tow package however the hitch is after market. The wire harness is factory all fuses too. I installed the part,I understand I need to take the jeep to the dealership and have them flash the program. I took it in today and they said it didnt need it, but the body control module is bad. Is there any information I can give them to do the right steps?!?

If the BCM is bad on your 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee then it will have to be replaced. There is no way around that. But if the BCM was bad you would have other problems as well. You can try a hard reset by disconnecting the vehicle battery for 30 seconds or so and then reconnect it to see if it recognizes the new hardware. If that doesn't work then either they do have to flash the computer (which is something that I am sure they do several times a day) OR it would mean that the Jeep didn't have the factory tow package after all.
If it turns out that the vehicle does not have the factory package then to add both a 4- and 7-Way trailer connector you will first need T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118727. Then you will need Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires Item # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you.
