Testing and Replacing Brakes on a 2012 Carriage Cameo Trailer
Question:
I have a 2012 F37RSQ Carriage Cameo. Checked the breaks yesterday and found one to have no action from the magnet. I have never inspected the breaks and, but did hear a grinding sound when turning the wheel. The axle is Dexter with E-Z Lube. I think it is 7 or 7200# On the axle is a sticker with the following: P13 Albion, Dex#. 60826. Order # 4411221-2. Can you assist to give me kit number for replacement if needed? They are drum breaks. Also, if I replace the bad one, should I also replace one on opposite side or all 4 wheels. Wheels have 8 lugs.

I've attached an article to help you test the magnets. You also should inspect the wiring for the brake that's giving you issues.
If you need to replace the brake you don't have to do both. However, it might be easier in the long run and if the others are showing wear it's a good idea. It can save you time and money later.
To determine which brakes to get you can measure the inside diameter of your drums. If they're 12 inch drums then I recommend using # AKEBRK-7-SA. These are self-adjusting so they won't need adjusting after you install them. You can also use the brake mounting flange to help you find the correct brakes. These fit a 5 bolt flange. If you just need one it's # AKEBRK-7L-SA for the left or # AKEBRK-6R for the right.
If the drums are 12-1/4 inches in diameter then use # 23-428-429. These will need to be adjusted periodically because they're manual adjust brakes. These fit a 4 bolt flange. These are # 23-428 for the left or # 23-429 for the right.
The left and right hand sides do matter when installing them. The shorter brake pad needs to face the front of the trailer.
You can also pull the hubs and check the bearing numbers. This will help determine the axle's capacity and will make it easier to find replacement parts.
