Recommended Tilting 4-Bike Platform Bike Rack with Locks on a 2004 Toyota RAV4 with Rear Spare Tire

Question:

Good Morning! : I would like to buy a bike rack for my daughter who lives in another state. Can you confirm one that she could open the back of her car when this is tilted away? Is there a step-up quality-wise that you would recommend? Is there one with a bike and/or hitch lock? Thanks much!

A good option that does tilt is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z. It will also carry 2 or 4 bikes and it includes locks for both the hitch and bikes. We haven't fit it on a RAV4 like hers so you'll need to make sure it'll clear the rear mounted spare tire. The SE measures 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the to the closest wheel hoop.

For one more option to consider look at the Yakima HoldUp # Y02443-2. It also can carry 2 or 4 bikes like the others and also includes a hitch lock. It does tilt away from the vehicle as well. We have test fit it on a newer RAV4 without the rear spare tire but not on one the same generation as your daughter's. The HoldUp does measure 12 inches from the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when in use. It measures 7 inches from the hitch pin hole when folded up.
