How to Prevent Rattle with Hollywood Racks HR1000

Question:

Hi there! I recently purchased an HR 1000 and am having some wobbling issues. Firstly, the adapter is a little small for my 2 inch receiver. Do you have adapters that are slightly larger that will that hole or prevent movement within the hitch? Secondly, the connection between the support beam and the folding bracket is pretty loose. The bikes jump up and down and wobble from left to right pretty significantly during a drive. Are there any parts that can prevent this from happening? Maybe I should replace the pin with a threaded bolt? Thanks!

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 2-Bike Platform Rack # HR1000Z does include an anti-wobble hitch bolt, but using the threaded Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # HRLHPTC might help with some of the movement inside the hitch receiver. This kit also includes a cable lock to secure your bikes to the rack.

Another option I recommend looking at that will help to reduce movement both inside the hitch and with the bike rack itself is a stabilizing strap like the Curt # 18050. This will provide extra support to the receiver and rack when transporting your bikes. It will reduce a lot of the wobble and instability you are experiencing. I have attached a video demonstration on this product for you to check out.

A final option I recommend considering is an anti-rattle device like the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061. This will slide over the shank of your bike rack and the U-bolt will hook around the collar of the hitch receiver. This will work to eliminate rattle and sway within the receiver. I have included a video on this product so you can see exactly how it works. Note that this will only work on hitch receivers that have a ring or collar around it.

If your hitch does not have a collar, you can instead use the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer # BX88224. This does not need a hitch collar to work properly and will eliminate rattle and sway with the included bracket and u-bolts. I have also attached a video on this product for you to look at.
