Connecting Brake Controller to Brake Stoplight Circuit on 2008 Chevy Equinox

Question:

On my 2008 Chevy Equinox, there are 3 wires by the brake pedal. None of which light the test light when the pedal is or is not pushed. I tried all 3 wires to my brake controller and pressed the brake pedal and none of the wires send the signal to the brakes. If I slide the manual brake on the controller it works. What is going on? Why am I not getting anything from any of these wires. I am pretty sure the orange wire is the correct one when the brake is pushed, but I get nothing. Am I missing something? I have a good ground and my brake lights work normally, I dont get it.

To access a brake signal on your Equinox, you will need to access it at the fuse box under the hood. Using the legend on the lid or the owners manual, locate the CHMSL (center high-mounted stoplight) fuse, which should be location # 27. Remove the fuse and use a fuse tap available at your local auto parts store. Use a tester on the lead coming off the tap to ensure the circuit goes hot with the brake pedal. You can then connect the red brake controller wire to the fuse tap.
