Recommendation on a Hitch for a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen
Question:
Im shipping a Box container Dimensions:96inch x 60inch x 90inch LxWxHCapacity:257 cubic ft cross country for my move, but at the origin and destination I need to tow the box on a trailer to and from my home just a couple of miles in the city. Is this an appropriate hitch to install on my 2010 Jetta Sportwagen 2.5L for this purpose? And if so, what other parts would I need? If you know that its not a good idea for my transmission, also let me know I have never done this before :... thanks!

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11474, is confirmed to fit your 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. However, you will need to verify the towing capacity of your vehicle to see if your Jetta Sportwagen will be able to tow a trailer and its load.
The Curt hitch is a Class I hitch which is designed for lightweight towing. The hitch itself is limited to 2000 lbs of trailer weight and 200 lbs of tongue weight. However, whatever the vehicle's trailer capacity and tongue weight is the important factor to consider. This information may be in your Jetta Sportwagen Owner's manual. If this info is not included in the manual, contact a local VW dealer with your VIN#. They will be able to find this information for your vehicle.
If your vehicle towing capacities are greater than the weight of the trailer and the weight of the box you plan to tow, then this hitch will work well.
To tow a trailer you will also needed a lighting connection and a ball mount. For the 2010 VW Jetta Sportwagen, I recommend the 4 Pole Harness and Hardware Kit, # C59496. This kit will allow you to install the 4-pole trailer connection that is needed to run the lights on your trailer. This is a hardwired unit that requires your to splice into your vehicle's wiring harness. A tester is included to help identify the correct wires.
I also recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar # 3593. The drawbar will include a hitch pin and clip to secure the drawbar in the hitch.
I have attached a video the shows the installation of the Curt hitch on a similar 2017 Jetta . I also attached an article with some information on towing a trailer for you to review.
