To run a wire through the firewall of your Mercedes-Benz GLK350, you will want to first check for wires already run through the firewall. If you can use the same location, that minimizes any issue. If you need to use a different location, check for grommets first. Often there are rubber grommets that cover a hole that is already in your firewall and removing that grommet, cutting or drilling a hole and replacing it around the wire is the next best option. The last option is to drill another hole.

If you must drill a hole, you want to use a small drill bit made for metal first to create a pilot hole. Be careful about where you drill because you want to make sure you don't drill into anything on the other side. Once your pilot hole is drilled, you can use a bit slightly larger than the wire to drill your final hole. Make sure your round out any sharp edges that may cut the insulation on your wire. For a brake controller, I recommend using the Deka Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot # 10-2-1.
