Recommended Roadmaster Baseplate And Accessories For Flat Towing A 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata
Question:
Hi, I know that I can order the RM-524450-4 tow plate, and that Roadmaster sells an adaptor to allow me to use my existing Blue Ox Tow bars Aventa LX model with this baseplate not the EZ5. I have a few questions: 1. I see the adaptor is RM-033 any argument for NOT using this adaptor vs spending the money for Roadmaster tow bars? 3. I have a Roadmaster Even Brake, will this unit FIT in my Miata? I have an extra vehicle installation kit I can use if it does fit! 4. Do you sell a kit for installing wiring for taillights including diodes as well as keep charge connections to TOAD battery? 5. Anything else I would need? Thanks!

For your 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata, I recommend eh Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-524450-4 you mentioned. I recommend using the Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts - 0.20-Fl-Oz Tube # LT37420 for this installation.
The adapter that is compatible with those baseplates is actually the Roadmaster Tow Bar Adapter # RM-032 and that will work very well with your Blue Ox Aventa LX Tow Bar. If you don't have the safety cables, I recommend the replacement Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables - 10,000 lbs - Qty 2 # BX88197.
We don't have confirmed fits for the supplemental braking and electrical components, but Roadmaster confirms the diodes will work. This doesn't mean options won't fit, but that they have not been tested in your specific vehicle.
If it were me, I would use the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 that taps into your vehicle wiring and allows you the battery charge option you mentioned. You will also want the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 because you have separate brake and turn signal wiring.
The Roadmaster EvenBrake # RM-9400 is a universal fit, so I imagine it would work just fine. Roadmaster suggests using the 12 Volt Outlet Kit, 20 amps # RM-9332 for the power needed for that system.
The last thing you will need is a high low adapter. I've attached an article on measuring and have attached the page to your options.
