Why Would Trailer with Electric Brakes Lock Up When Vehicle is in Reverse

Why would they trailer brakes come on while trying to back up

If you have a trailer with electric brakes and they are locking up when the vehicle is in reverse that means that you have a short between the reverse light circuit and the brake output circuit which is locking the brakes up.
Go over the two circuits and see if you can find where they might be shorting out together and causing this problem. Electric tape like part # DW04367 can be used to insulate the two circuits. Or it could be caused by corrosion on the connectors shorting them two together.
