Why Do Trailer Suspension Equalizers Come in Different Shapes and Sizes

Question:

Good day, What is the difference between a straight, curved and triangle equalizer usage wise? I have a dual 6,000# axle setup with the axles under the spring using triangle equalizers. I had to put the axle under the spring due to the arch in the axle needing to be at the top and the spring cradle is mounted in the right place for this. The fella that had it before me had the axles on top of the springs and the arch was down. I corrected that, but questioning if theres a reason related to axle/spring relationship to use a different equalizer.

Equalizers for trailer suspension have different shapes, lengths, and heights to accommodate different axle spacing, spring lengths, and deck heights. Going to an equalizer that is not the same length and height as the original will require replacing other parts as well including but not limited to the spring hangers and springs themselves.

The previous owner of your trailer probably wanted the trailer lower but he didn't do it correctly. With the bow in the axle facing done it reduces its capacity and can cause excessive tire wear and other problems. You did the right thing by returning the axles to their proper positions.

I have included a link to our help article on double eye suspension.
