Recommended Weight Distribution System for Jayco Jay Flight Trailer with Underslung Coupler
Question:
Hello. Im purchasing a 2016 Jayco Jayflight 29RKS, GVWR 9500#, Dry TW 815#, underslung coupler. I tow with a 96 F250 HD 7.3L Diesel. Im looking at the Blue Ox and Reese WD anti sway hitches, rated for 10000# and 1000# TW. Is 1000# TW rating enough, and which one is better at sway control? Thanks

When choosing a weight distribution system, you will want to consider the total tongue weight of your setup. This will not only include the loaded tongue weight of your Jayco Jay Flight Trailer, but also any added cargo weight coming from behind the rear axle of your Ford F-250. Ideally, you will want this number to fall somewhere around the middle of the tongue weight capacity range for the weight distribution system you choose. I recommend verifying the loaded tongue weight of your trailer with a scale like the etrailer # e99044.
If your total tongue weight remains under 1,000 pounds, then the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1003 will be the best option for your underslung coupler. This system has a tongue weight capacity of 750 to 1,000 pounds and features constant tension in trunnions that will help force the trailer in line and prevent trailer sway.
If you find that after loading the trailer and accounting for cargo weight behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle the total tongue weight of your setup creeps up over 1,000 pounds, the better option will be the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1503. This system is again designed for use with underslung couplers but has a higher tongue weight capacity range of 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. It features the same sway control design as the previously mentioned system.
For either of these weight distribution systems, you will just need to add a compatible hitch ball like the 2 inch # A-90 or 2-5/16 inch # 19286.
I have attached the installation details on these products as well as an article on weight distribution systems that you might find helpful.
