Parts Needed to Install Prodigy P3 90195 Trailer Brake Controller in 2001 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I need to replace the existing trailer wiring for my truck and want to also add a brake controller and a 6 pin RV connector as well as a 4-way flat connector. The truck is a 2001 Toyota Tacoma regular cab. The original harness is shot, and has shorts in it, so I want to start from scratch. Ill be buying a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 controller. What are the right wiring and connector parts to buy? Thanks in advance.

We can help you install new trailer wiring to allow use of a trailer brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195, which is an excellent choice for its flexibility and proven reliability.
You mention you want a 6-way trailer connector - which we can help you with - but since most applications these days use a 7-way I suggest that to confirm you refer to the linked article on trailer wiring that shows you both 6-pole and 7-way connectors. This will just help you verify which installation kit you need. For reference, part # 37185 is a 4/7-way vehicle socket and part # 37175 is a 4/6-pole socket.
Brake controller installation will start with a new plug-and-play 4-pole harness # 118379 which installs at your tail lights. Then you will use either kit # ETBC7 or # ETBC6 (as noted above) which will include all of the parts needed to install the Prodigy controller. No other items are needed apart from the controller itself # 90195, the 4-pole kit # 118379 and the appropriate installation kit.
Both installation kit options include a vehicle socket that offers both 4-pole and either 6- or 7-way connectivity.
