Methods to Level 5th Wheel Trailer That Rises Nose High
Question:
I have a 1994 Jayco 5th wheel, a 2005 Chevrolet k2500 4WD truck and a Curt slider hitch. The problem is that even at its lowest setting the hitch holds the front of the trailer higher than I would prefer. The trailer uses a Leland 7910 pin box. Does anyone make a replacement pin box that would take at least 2inch off of that height? The old pin box is quite thick. I do not need one with cushioning or a swivel and Ideally I would like to not have to spend over $500.

You might be able to change the mounting position of the existing Leland 7910 pin box on the trailer to bring it closer to level when hitched. 5th wheel pin box mounting wings have multiple holes to allow shifting the vertical placement of the pin box. If you can move the 7910 to a higher point on those wings this will bring down the nose of the trailer. Of course you want to ensure you still have enough clearance; please refer to the linked diagram.
If not, an axle over-under kit may do the trick by raising the height of the trailer. Axle over-under kits # K71-384-00 and # K71-385-00 give you a height increase at the trailer equal to the axle diameter plus the height of your leaf spring stack. Choose the one for your axle diameter, either 2-3/8-inches or 3-inches.
