For your 2017 Mazda CX-5, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76138. This is a nice square tube receiver with a black powder coat finish over an e-coat base for excellent rust protection.
For your trailer wiring, I recommend the 4 Pole Trailer Connector (Includes Install Kit) # C59496. This will give you a 4-way flat that can be used with the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires # ETBC7. This will give you the 7-way connection and give you the wiring, the connections, and the circuit breakers needed to install a brake controller so you can use trailer brakes with this vehicle.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. This controller will apply the brakes at the same time and with the same intensity as you hit the brake pedal in your CX-5. This controller has an LCD screen that takes code deciphering out of the equation. This controller runs constant diagnostics and makes it easy to know exactly what you need to know in a quick glance.
For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 5" Drop, 5-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10037B. This adjustable mount makes towing multiple trailers easy and safe. It has a 2 inch and a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball option and is adjustable height for level towing. It also has a nice stowable feature that gives you a clean look and protects your shins when it is not in use. I recommend a locking hitch pin like # e98882 to protect your investment.
