No Power on 4-Way End of Trailer Wiring Harness C56331 on a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country

Question:

In installing the wiring, we are not getting signal to the trailer. Is there a wiring schematic I can print to make sure we are connecting everything properly? The video is great but we must have missed something and my buddy asked for a schematic he reads those things.

The only schematic that the manufacturer of wiring harness # C56331 provides is what is in the instructions which is to say not much. Everything else is proprietary information. But I can tell you how you would go about testing the wiring harness on your 2014 Chrysler Town and Country.

First, make sure that everything is installed including the fuse in the fuse holder and that the converter box is getting its power directly from the vehicle battery. If the fuse is blown that would be the problem so that is really easy to check.

Since it is almost never that easy, we can move on to testing the harness to see if it is the problem. First, using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 or a meter if you have one, test the wires going into the converter from the vehicle while someone operates the vehicle lights.

If no power is on the input wires during this test then there is a problem possibly with the connectors on either the harness or the vehicle. Check for broken, bent, or otherwise damaged connectors on the harness and vehicle.

If there is power on the input side move on to the wires on the output side of the converter. If you are not getting power on the output side check to make sure the unit is grounded to a bare metal surface. You can even try alternate ground locations to see if there is any change. If there is not, then there is a problem inside the converter and the whole harness will need to be replaced.

If there is power on the output side, then everything on the vehicle side is fine. But if the trailer lights won't work then the issue is on the trailer. If the trailer has to be coupled to the ball for the lights to work, then that indicates a ground problem on the trailer. Also check for corrosion on the trailer side connector because that can cause lights not to work as well.
