What Does the SH Error Code Mean on the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller

Question:

What does Sh mean? We are traveling with a heavier trailer. Did we miss something or forget to do something?

The SH code on the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 is indicating a short in the brake output circuit.

A dirty or corroded trailer connector can cause a short. First, clean out any dirt or corrosion you find. Corrosion can also build up in the backs of the connectors where the wires attach. Once cleaned, use a dielectric grease, like # LT37534, on both ends of the trailer connection to reduce any future corrosion and dirt or water contamination.

Since you only have noticed the problem when towing your new trailer, then the short issue may be on the trailer. Check the wiring to the magnets on the trailer. Make sure all the connections are secure and there are no frayed or worn wires. Also check the trailer magnet ground wires and make sure they are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.

If all of these connection turn out to be fine, then there may be an issue with one of the magnets on your trailer's axles. I have attached a FAQ article that will explain how to perform a series of tests on your trailer magnets using a multimeter, like # PT89ZR.
