Using a Dexter Brake Actuator with the OEM Electric Brake Controller in a 2012 Ford F-350
Question:
Pulling a 20foot Wilson stock trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes. Manually set braking system to electric over hydraulic in the driver assist settings. Braking seems very weak when loaded and need to crank brake setting quiet high even when unloaded. Are there compatibility issues with ford and the dexter system?

Yes, some of the OEM electric brake controllers have issues with an electric-over-hydraulic braking setup. Even if the controller is designed to work we've still seen problems.
With some actuators there are adapters designed to solve the problem. There aren't any adapters that are designed for the Dexter actuators however we have heard that the HydraStar # HBA-CAM is compatible. I can't confirm this will definitely solve your issues though.
The sure solution is to replace the factory integrated brake controller in your 2012 Ford F-350 with an aftermarket controller. I recommend the Prodigy P2 # 90885 with the wiring adapter # 3034-P.
Before you purchase anything make sure the brakes are adjusted correctly. This is probably the most common issue for weak trailer brakes.
