Curt Custom Hitch Extension C45048 to Fit 2-1/2 Inch Receiver

Question:

I have a 2014 F250 and would like to trailer with the tailgate down. With the hitch in the receiver, I will need about an 18inch hitch extension. Do you see any problems cutting this Hitch extension shorter than 24? I know I will have to drill another hole and cut it down further, but it should give me more than the 6000 lb rating. I have a 5000 lb trailer, so Im not too worried about that.

We do offer hitch extensions for a 2-1/2-inch hitch receiver, such as the Curt # C45048 which can be used for either 24- or 34-inch extension, but like all other such extenders this item also reduces the receiver opening size down to 2-inches. So it will fit into a 2-1/2-inch hitch but it then reduces the available opening on the other end to 2-inches. For a 24-inch application the extension will need to use the rear hitch pin hole for installation. At that length it has a 6K GTW rating. It cannot be cut down further.

We do have hitch reducer sleeves like # C45405 or # BWRHXA2182 to reduce your hitch to 2-inches and allow use of an 18-inch extension # C45796, but this Curt extension is rated for only 3500-lbs.
