How To Adapt A 4-Flat Harness To A 5-Pole Connector

Question:

I own a 2011 Ford Explorer and have installed the aftermarket 4-pole T-one harness 118540. I have a new boat trailer with a 5-pin flat connector. Is there a 5-pin flat harness for my explorer? If not, is there another solution? I saw part number 20036 but will need brackets to mount to explorer?? Any help or advice is appreciated.

I do have a solution for you to consider however, there is currently not a plug in 5-pole harness that will work on your 2011 Ford Explorer. You are correct in that you will need to use an adapter such as the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter part # 20036 to convert your 4-pole into a 5-pole connector. The bracket you will need to mount the new 5-pole is the Mounting Bracket for Wesbar 5-Pole Flat part # TR20046.

The harness can be installed by plugging the male end of the 4-way on the adapter into the female end of the 4-way on you vehicle. You will also have to run the blue wire to the rear of the vehicle, splicing into your reverse lights.

To ensure a safe and secure connection, I recommend using the Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors part # 11755.
