Recommended Brake Controller For 2016 GMC 2500 HD With Factory Tow Package And Integrated Controller
Question:
I have a 2016 GMC 2500HD with the Duramax diesel, with the factory trailering package and dash controller. I purchased a 2017 Ragen 3213 5th wheel toy hauler trailer. I have had multiple issues with the brake system. Currently I am now getting check trailer wiring on acceleration, once I let off the accelerator, trailer reconnects. I have had the trailer checked by manufacturer, they find nothing wrong. I have had the truck checked by the dealer, and all checks out as well. Do you have any ideas? I am about to go cross country towing this trailer and want the brakes to work.

Sometimes there is a compatibility issue between the factory brake controller and the trailer that we don't find with the aftermarket controllers. Since you have had both your truck and your trailer checked out, the issue is in the compatibility.
My recommendation is to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 brake controller # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will not have any issues connecting with your trailer to function correctly. This controller has an LCD screen that takes code deciphering and false codes out of the equation. This is the easiest controller to use and is extremely reliable. It has customizable settings for driver preferences.
This controller will connect easily to your system when you use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3016. This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector in your vehicle's junction box. The box is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, just above the carpeting. This combination should completely solve your issue.
