Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And Bike Rack For 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid 4-Door
Question:
Hi: Please recommend a hitch and a hitch bike rack solution for our 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid 4-door. As far as the rack goes Im interested in something on the lighter side as this is for my wifes car. My truck has a a 2inch hitch and I use a Yakima Holdup, so also please tell me if its possible to install a 2inch hitch on her Civic so we have the option of using one rack and saving some budget instead of weight. Thanks in advance!

For a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid 4-door, there is not a 2 inch hitch option to utilize your current bike rack. The hitch receiver available is 1-1/4 inches and a Class I.
For your hitch receiver, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11391. This is a nice hitch confirmed to fit your Civic Hybrid. It requires a stabilization strap # 18050 when using it with a bike rack or cargo carrier. I've attached a video of this hitch installation for you.
For a bike rack, you will be limited to a rack compatible with a Class 1 hitch receiver, so even if it is for more than 2 bikes, you will be limited to 2 bikes max due to your receiver. I recommend the Swagman XTC-2 2-Bike Platform Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Trailer Hitches # S64670. This will be transferable to your truck if you so desire. This rack makes it easy to load and unload bikes and weight just over 30 lbs. I recommend using the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable for Swagman Bike Racks w/ 1-1/4" & Combo Shanks - 7' # S64031 to secure this rack and your bikes when transporting. This carrier is extremely adjustable and can carry bikes up to 35 lbs each.
This combination will give you a very nice and easy to use bike carrier on your Civic.
