Can a Class I Trailer Hitch for 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback be Used to Carrier 100 lb Electric Scooter
Question:
Is the Class 1 trailer hitch 1 1/4 inch traveler strong enough to provide the safety and security for carrying a platform with ramp for a 100 pound electric scooter? Every one I have reviewed calls for a class 3 or 4 hitch. No one I have found makes a Class 3 or 4 hitch for the 2014 Ford Focus.

All of the trailer hitches available for your 2014 Ford Focus hatchback are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers like you said. Provided the combined weight of the carrier used and the electric scooter does not exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch such as # C11158 (200 pounds) you will be good to go. The hitch # C11158 will work on your 2014 Ford Hatchback as long as it is not an ST model.
The carrier also has to be rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. This will limit the options and none of the compatible carriers will have a ramp so you would need to furnish your own ramp if needed.
The best option is Curt carrier # C18110. This carrier weighs 30 pounds so it plus the 100 pound scooter adds up to 130 pounds which is well within the hitches capacity of 200 pounds. I have linked a video review of this carrier for you.
