Installing 7-Way and 4-Way Vehicle Trailer Connector # N40975, 2007 Nissan Titan with No OEM Plug
Question:
I have the N40975 but my vehicle has no connection for it at all. There are only bare wires with no connector on them. Can I use this product by hard wiring it? Or am I out of luck. I have already waited 8 months to get this item and the reason I got it was because I read in the product description that you didnt need a factory 7way connector. Thanks for any assistance.

I would double check just to make sure whether or not there is a wiring harness under your truck. According to the installation instructions for Factory Style 7-Way and 4-Way Flat Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # N40975, for vehicles with factory tow wiring connectors, the harness will be located under the vehicle along the left (drivers) side frame rail near a cross member. If that location does not reveal the connector, then you may have to hardwire it.
Use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993, to test the bare wires you found for function. As long as they are functioning, you can hardwire it in. The wire for 12-volt power on the truck will attach to the wire on the connector coming from the pin in the 11 o'clock position (if looking at the back of the plug).
The wire on the truck for running lights will attach to the wire from the back of the connector that goes to the pin in the 1 o'clock position.
The wire on the truck for left turn and brake lights will attach to the wire from the back of the connector that goes to the pin in the 3 o'clock position.
The wire on the truck for electric brake output will attach to the wire from the back of the connector that goes to the pin in the 7 o'clock position.
The wire on the truck for right turn and brake lights will attach to the wire from the back of the connector that goes to the pin in the 9 o'clock position.
The wire on the truck for reverse lights will attach to the wire from the back of the connector that goes to the center pin.
The remaining wire coming from the pin in the 5 oclock position can attach to the truck frame.
