Troubleshooting 2004 Toyota Sienna With Weld Nuts For Hitch Install Not Holding Torque
Question:
Hi. I have a 2004 Sienna and was trying to install Curt hitch P/N C12065 and run into the problem of 4 of the 6 holes being stripped, I can snug the bolts up but they will not hold torque. The weld nuts have not broken off. The ones holding torque are 1 on each side closest towards the engine. I have a few questions: Does the RHK kit available have just the replacement style bolts like the ones that come with the hitch? or Is it a carriage bolt repair type kit in which some holes would be drilled out in the frame to allow the carriage type bolt to be installed? Is there a bigger bolt that can be purchased and installed in a tapped out bigger hole? Your help is greatly appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Expert Reply:
For your Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver- Class II - 1-1/4" # C12065 on the 2004 Toyota Sienna, the weld nuts being stripped out will require tapping the weld nuts and using larger bolts. The # RHK kit will give you the hardware that came with the hitch to fit the current weld nuts. You will need to get a tap locally and get Grade 8 bolts to fit that new thread size.
