Needing a Reducer Sleeve for a 2-1/2 Inch Receiver Hitch Opening to go to a 2 Inch Opening
Question:
I have a 2500HD w/ 19inch rims and large mud tires I didnt do this, some kid I bought the truck from did. I just installed a draw-tite class V hitch 2 1/2inch opening. The bottom of the receiver opening measures 22inch from the ground. Im looking to purchase an RV trailer soon, and I know I will need a shank to the height of whatever WD Hitch I purchase for towing. I also know that there is no standard height for camper trailers Ive read as low as 17inch to the top of the ball to 24inch in rare cases. But there must be an average on what to shoot for. I looked at the 17128 which has the 2 1/2inch but that only s just over an inch for my WD setup. So I figured Id need to use a sleeve reducer going to 2 and then get a longer shank that can at-least 7inch with a Trunnion WD. So with that setup 22inch from ground to bottom of receiver, receiver is 2 1/2, could you point me to the products sold by etrailer.com that I should be looking at? Im ready to order today - I just need guidance.

If your are looking for a reducer sleeve to go from your 2-1/2 inch receiver opening to a 2 inch opening, then the Curt Receiver Reducer Sleeve, # C45405, will work well for your application.
Using this sleeve will allow you to use a 2 inch shank like the Curt Welded Weight Distribution Shank, # C17123. This hitch shank will give you a maximum drop of 8-1/4 inches when using trunnion bars systems. If you decide to use a round bar weigh distribution system, then the maximum drop will increase to 8-1/2 inches.
Since you are not going to have your weight distribution hitch at the time you purchase your trailer, I recommend you look at an adjustable ball mount. The Curt Channel Style Adjustable Ball Mount, # C45900, will fit your hitch using the Curt reducer, and has a 6 inch drop. The hitch has a flip-over style ball that will give you the option of a 2 or 2-5/16 inch trailer ball. The ball mount will allow your trailer from the dealer to home.
