Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for 2017 Honda Accord Sedan
Question:
Hello, I have a 2017 Honda Accord Sedan. I need to add a trailer hitch and wiring harness. My two wiring harness options require connection to the battery. I understand the smaller gauge wiring associated with the LED lighting is the reason for this need. If I converted my trailer to LED lighting also, would that give me any options to avoid routing power from the battery? It seems like the lighter LED load might be safely managed by the Honda wiring?

Not all vehicles can handle the additional amperage draw of the trailer taillights on the vehicle taillight circuits. Even if those circuits are LED which do not draw that much relative to incandescent. Those vehicles need setup that draws power from the battery. Some vehicles have higher rated circuits that can handle this, and others need to have the power drawn straight from the battery to protect the taillight circuits.
For your 2017 Honda Accord you need to install a harness that draws power from the battery to protect the taillight circuits. For that you would need the part # C56173. I also attached a help article on running the power wire for you to check out as well.
