Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring On 1998 Lexus LX470

Question:

I still have to purchase my brake controller I am wiring a combo 4 / 7 connector I have almost all I need only one small detail is keeping me from being able to complete the task. Which wire do I splice to the brake controller. This seems to be the hardest part of the install. Thanks Brake controller 98 lx470 lexus

For your 1998 Lexus LX 470, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # 90195. This is a really easy to use and clear to understand brake controller with an LCD screen. It takes the code deciphering of most brake controllers out of the equation. It comes with the simple wire harness to connect to your vehicle by hardwiring.

For the 7-way and 4-way, I recommend the Universal Brake Controller Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit allows you to use a 4-way and then uses wiring and connectors in the kit to give you everything else you need. You will run a wire from the battery to the inside of your vehicle at the brake controller and out to your 7-way connector. You will have a positive and ground that will come from the battery to the brake controller and then you will have a positive 12V (Black) and Brake controller Output (blue from controller wiring) that will connect to the white wire in that duplex wiring to connect to the rear. The white from the brake controller will go to ground, the blue to brake controller output on 7-way, the red to the cold side of your brake light switch, and the black to power.

I've attached a video as well as an article to help further.
