7-Way Wiring & Brake Controller for 2017 Honda CR-V Towing Pop-Up camper with Brakes

Question:

I have a 2017 Honda CR-V Touring. Buying a lightweight pop up 1040 lbs so under 1500 vehicle capacity which has electric brakes and a 7 way plug in receptacle. Going with a class 3 hitch. What do I need in terms of wiring harness? Will it plug in to CR-V wiring like I see the 4 way plug in does?

For your 2017 Honda CR-V Touring to tow a pop-up camper with a 7-way wiring setup and electric brakes you will need the Class III hitch # 76128 and related items, a 4-pole wire harness # 118741, our brake controller install kit # ETBC7 and the controller itself, such as the popular Prodigy P3 # 90195.

The 4-pole harness is a plug-in installation at the rear of the CR-V while the # ETBC7 kit is a hardwired install. This kit includes everything you need to wire a brake controller and install a 7-way socket with all lighting, braking and 12V power functions. Please refer to the linked videos for illustration of the installation processes.

Along with the hitch you will need a ball mount and a hitch ball of the size required by your trailer coupler. The linked article will help you choose a ball mount that lets the hitched trailer remain level for good handling.
