The Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16265 referenced in your question is compatible with standard, above-bed base rails. If there are standard, above-bed base rails installed on both the 2005 and 2006 Dodge Ram 3500, then this hitch will technically fit either truck. However, since you mentioned that your truck has a shorter, 6 foot bed, it is instead recommended to use a sliding 5th-wheel hitch in order to provide proper clearance when making turns.
I recommend looking at the Curt Q24 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R24 Slider # C16546, which is also compatible with standard, above-bed base rails. This hitch will give you 12 inches of slider travel to help with turn clearance and it provides a gross towing weight of 24,000 pounds. If you need base rails and installation hardware, I recommend the Custom Kit # C16420-204, which will work on either the 2005 or 2006 model truck.
Also, if you do not have one already, I recommend adding a 5th-Wheel Wiring Harness like the Curt # C56001. Once installed, this will put a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for easy hookup with your trailer.
I have attached an article on 5th-wheel trailer hitches that you may also find helpful.
