Recommended Base Plate Kit and Other Parts to Flat Tow a 1997 Jeep Wrangler with Warn Bumper

Question:

I want to flat tow my 1997 Jeep Wrangler behind my camper. The wrangler has an aftermarket warn bumper with integrated winch. It has built-in shackles in the bumper. What would you recommend for towing it and what base plates do I need?

To flat tow your 1997 Jeep Wrangler you'll need a tow bar, wiring, and likely a high-low adapter. You'll also want to consult your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle is able to be flat towed without damaging it.

Since you have the Warn bumper with the D-rings you can use Roadmaster D-Ring Bumper Mounts # RM-035-1 if they're 1 inch thick or # RM-035 if they're 3/4 inches thick. These will pair nicely with a Roadmaster tow bar like the Falcon 2 # RM-520.

To power the Jeep's lights you can use the diode kit # RM-15267. This will operate the vehicle's tail lights by connecting to the RV's. It also includes the cord to go between the two.

For a supplemental braking system the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 is a favorite around here because of how reliable it is and it's easier to install than many other permanently installed systems. To keep the Wrangler's lights from overriding the RV's you'll need to add a Brake-Lite Relay # RM-88400 as well.

Finally, you'll likely need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop your setup requires. I've also linked our selection of adapters for you to look at once you know what you need.

In addition to my recommendations I've linked some articles on flat towing that you may find helpful.
