Recommendation of Skid Wheels to be Mounted on a 3 Inch Wide Surface

Question:

Hi. I would like to mount the Ultra Fab 4 inch skid wheels on my travel trailer but the mounting surface is 3 inch wide. So, it appears welding the mounting plate on the surface will not work because there would be no room for the bolts. The rollers you sell are too small for this location. Can the 4inch wheels be welded on without the mounting plate and without, obviously, the bolts? Any other suggestions?

I might have a solution for you. However, the Ultra Fab 4 Inch Caster Wheels, # UF48-979011, will not be a viable option for your trailer.

The best option will be to use the Ultra Fab Steel Jumbo Rollers, # UF48-979023. These roller have a 3 inch long x 2-1/2 inch wide mounting bracket could easily be welded on to the 3 inch surface on your trailer. This roller also has a height of 3-1/2 inches tall.

The base plate of the 4 inch wheel caster of # UF48-979011 measures 4-3/8 inches long x 3-7/8 inches wide. These measurements might allow you to weld the castor straight to the frame, but there is another issue. The ball bearing for the swivel on the caster wheel sits in the plate. Welding might put too much heat stress in the bearing and cause damage to the bearing. I would not recommend welding this caster to the frame.
