Parts Needed to Add a Trailer Hitch Receiver to a 2014 Toyota Highlander

Question:

Hello, I need to purchase a hitch for my 2014 Toyota Highlander Limited. I just want to make sure that when I buy one of the hitches, that I do not need to purchase anything else. In other words, everything I need is included. Thanks very much.

It depends on what you're using the trailer hitch receiver for. First off, I recommend the Draw-Tite # DT65MR for the hitch receiver. It bolts right onto your 2014 Toyota Highlander and all the necessary hardware is included.

If you plan to use the hitch for carrying a cargo carrier or bike rack then the only other thing you need is that accessory and you're good to go.

If you plan to use the hitch to tow a trailer you'll also need trailer wiring, a ball mount, hitch ball, and a pin and clip.

For trailer wiring you'll need a harness like # 118449 if your Highlander does not have the converter box under the dashboard or # HM11141825 if it does have the converter.

You'll also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I've attached link of our selection of ball mounts for a 2 inch hitch receiver as well as an article to help you determine the correct rise or drop you may need. Once you choose a ball mount you can then choose a hitch ball to fit it.

One way to make choosing a ball mount easier is to go with an adjustable ball mount like the B&W Tow & Stow # BWTS10038B. It features the ability to be flipped under the hitch when not using it and will provide up to 5-1/2 inches of rise or 5 inches of drop.

For a pin and clip to fit you can use # PC3 or if you'd like to have a locking pin you can use # BX8858.

I've also included links to some articles on towing that you might find helpful.
