Does Derale Oil Cooler Use a Thermostat

Question:

Will I need a thermostat to regulate when the oil goes to the cooler? I live in the Pacific Northwest where temps drop into mid 20s in the winter.

Expert Reply:

The Derale Tube-Fin Oil Cooler # D15551 does not use a thermostat. The filter installs inline with the oil lines and a thermostat will block the flow of oil until the specific temperature is reached. Depriving your engine of oil is certainly not something you want to do.

The Derale cooler is a great choice for your 2014 Ram 1500. It will cool the engine oil, prolonging the life of your engine, without over cooling in low temperatures.
