Weight Distribution for a 2006 Porsche Cayenne S Rated for 617 Pounds Tongue Weight.

Question:

We are going to buy a Porsche Cayenne 2006 Turbo S. And we are looking at tip to tip of RV trailer between 26foot to 32foot most likely being 29 foot 11 inch or so dry weight of 5300 lbs or so. Tongue weight is my issue. Depending on brand of trailer and configuration tongue weight is 530 lbs to 860 lbs most we are really interested in are 590-720ish. I have done a lot of research on the Cayenne and I know for fact you can use a WDH. Stock receiver says 617 lbs max tongue weight. 7700 max towing weight. All the trailers we are looking at have a GVWR under 7700lbs so that is not our worry its all about the tongue weight for us. I am very experienced been towing legally since I was 15. 74 Dodge Short bed slant six three on a tree. 22foot enclosed trailer dual axle. 3 cords of wet wood. Front wheels bouncing in the air... literally. I could tell you horror stories but suffice it to say I have some experience. I survived those years and am now 51 years of age. And no the Cayenne wont be doing the firewood trips. 89 CK3500 with 460 gets that duty. I think I know the answer but is there anyway to correctly set the Cayenne up to tow lets say at least 770lbs tongue weight? Open to ideas and suggestions. If you guys have a better receiver then stock could buy the vehicle without the stock receiver. Let me know. Thanks in advance

When towing, using weight distribution or not, you are limited to the capacity of the lowest rated component in the system. Even if a hitch is rated higher than the vehicle you would still go by the capacity of the vehicle. You can check your owner's manual but from what I found 617 pounds tongue weight is the limit for the vehicle and that is what you would want to go by.

You can still use weight distribution but you will just be limited to 617 pounds tongue weight. Tongue weight can be reduced by moving weight further back on the trailer, if possible. Otherwise you will need to look at trailers that are lighter.

For a system that is rated for 400 to 800 pounds (you would still be limited to a max of 617 pounds) I recommend Fastway e2 system # FA94-00-0800. It includes built in sway control and the only other part you would need is a compatible ball such as # 63840.
