Replacement Brake Assemblies For 2002 25 ft Forest River Trailer
Question:
The brakes are making a sneaking noise when applied. We pulled the drums, the shoes still have a little meat on them but are getting down there! The magnets are clearly rubbing on the drum! Will new shoes cause the magnets to move inward? or are the magnets shot?

Expert Reply:
New shoes will not cause the magnets to move inward, and it sounds like your magnets are shot. I've attached an article on testing your magnets. I recommend changing your brake assemblies as the individual parts are more expensive to replace individually. If your drums are really worn, give me the bearing numbers printed on the face of the inside and outside bearings and I can help you get the right replacements.
If you have a 10 inch assembly, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. These are labeled for which side they are to be installed on and have the 4 bolt mounting pattern. They will fit 13, 14, and 15 inch wheels. They will self-adjust after the initial installation adjustment.
If you have 12 inch assemblies, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA. These will function the same way, they are just for bigger axles. They have the 5 bolt mounting pattern and will fit 14.5 inch to 16.5 inch wheels. I've attached review videos as well as an installation video to help.
