Recommended Parts Needed To Convert 4-Way Trailer Connectors To 7-Way On Vehicle And Trailer

Question:

Hello, just wanting to know if the following part will work on a 1992 Chevrolet 2500? Im trying to change my 4 blade over to a 7 so I can have the option of reverse lights on my boat trailer, but still need a 4 for another trailer. Also, what trailer end plug would you recommend for the complete package? Thanks in advance! The Hopkins Endurance # HM47180 would work great for converting your 4-way to a 7-way and 4-way connector. The included instructions have a wiring diagram for the trailer plug you can check out.

If you just want the 7-way trailer connector, I recommend part # PK12706. If you want the trailer connector with jacketed wire I recommend part # H20043.

To avoid ugly wiring and taped up connectors I recommend using a junction box like part # 38656. This is attached to the trailer and has terminals you can attach the wiring to. Not only does this keep the connections safe and secure, it looks much better than splices and tape. You do need to mount the junction box on the frame where it will not be submersed in water.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
