Mounting Plate for Friction Sway Control is Too Tall for 2-3/4 Inch Trailer Frame

Question:

Hi, I have a 2005 Starcraft Pop-up Camper model 2106. I see the the ball mounting plate dimensions is 3inch x 6inch but the Campers tongue is only 2-3/4inch high so bolting it wont really work. Do you have any suggestions on how to get around this problem or possibly another sway control product that would work?

All of the friction sway control bars such as # 83660 have the same basic mounting pattern with a 3 inch plate. So in order to use one what I recommend is to use as many bolts as you can and then weld the bracket on everywhere it touches the trailer.

But really your best option is to use a weight distribution system with built-in sway control # FA92-00-0450. This system is rated for up to 450 pounds tongue weight and the only other part needed is a ball. For a 2 inch you can use # 40038. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 63847.
